Annual SPSC Awards Banquet Held April 13
view program & awards list.

A quick melting and a dousing of rain in March brought an abrupt halt to our winter jumping.
However, the 2009-2010 season didn’t officially end, until April 13, the date of our club banquet,
which was held at Tinucci's in Newport. The food, as usual, was delicious and plentiful. However,
it was the smiles on our young jumpers’ faces that stole the show.
This year, over 40 jumpers were honored, ranging in age from 2 ½ to 16. Each had their own personal
accomplishments to celebrate making it all the way down the landing hill, going off their first
jump, improving on their distance or style points, conquering a bigger hill, earning their right
to compete in national competitions… a perfect ending to another great season.
During our awards ceremony, each jumper was treated to a bag full of prizes and a fabulous trophy,
commemorating their individual finish in the club standings. Special honors went to Christian Friberg,
Brian Wallace, Trevor Edlund and Elizabeth Wallace, who represented our club, and the Central Division,
very well in this year’s Junior Olympic competition in Steamboat Springs CO. In addition, Brian Wallace
earned the opportunity to compete internationally at the World Junior Championships, and did us all
proud.
In our senior division, Karin Friberg continued to jump well for the club and the US Women’s
Team. We are looking forward to seeing her jump this summer, after her arm heals (an unfortunate
landing of a training jump, put her in a cast, but not out of the hunt for bigger and better things).
Thanks to Kris Edlund’s hard work behind the camera and the computer, banquet attendees were treated
to another super “Year in Review” video presentation, featuring all our jumpers.
While it was a great night for celebrating, I guarantee you that most of our jumpers went home
with their minds already set on next season. Summer jumping begins at our hill on June 1.
