Inducted 27 Oct 2000 Jamie Gaboury came from Duluth to St. Paul in the mid 1980’s. He became an active member in the St. Paul Ski Club and soon began assuming leadership roles. He became a member of the Board of Directors and served as president of the St. Paul Ski Club, beginning in 1992, for eight consecutive years. During Gaboury's tenure as club president, the St. Paul Ski Club witnessed major improvements in the training facilities at its Carver’s Lake Nordic Area. He led the way in such things as a ski tow. Additionally, there have been numerous other projects in which he aided members of the St. Paul Ski Club. Most notable among Gaboury’s achievements, which have had a lasting affect on the ability of St. Paul skiers to compete nationally, has been the installation of plastic on two of the four ski jumping hills. Gaboury's leadership resulted in the procurement of the plastic for the 20 meter hill and was instrumental in the installation of the materials on that facility. More notable was his inspiration in designing and developing the track on the 45 meter Harrington Hill. In addition to working closely with ski club members to install the plastic, Gaboury developed a track which utilized marbles as a surface, thereby promoting a cost effective method of design, which enabled the club to complete the installation process. Gaboury began his ski jumping career at the age of seven, as a junior competitor with the Duluth Ski Club in 1968. He was an active junior ski club member and won numerous events at Chester Bowl. He was the year-end total point winner in 1977-78. He competed in the Junior Nationals in Squaw Valley that same season. He went on to achieve success as a Class “B” and Class “A” senior competitor. Gaboury is the 1990 Central Division Masters Champion. In 1990, he competed in ski flying at Copper Peak, and while traveling with the US team in Europe, was a forerunner for competitions in the famous Springer Tournee meets. In addition to his efforts in administering projects which have ensured year round training facilities for future generations of young jumpers, Gaboury has sought to bring about harmonious working relationships between factions within the club. His leadership qualities will continue to be a legacy for future generation of the ski jumping fraternity to emulate.
