Milt "Sonny" Kreuser
Inducted 30 Oct 1998

Milt Kreuser got his start in ski jumping at the age of four from an old timer in South St. Paul when Arnulf Unneberg assisted in the construction of a ski jump in Milt’s back yard.

With Unneberg as his mentor, Milt learned the sport and aided in forming a junior ski club called the Kaposia Flyers.

The “flyers” skied at Simon’s Ravine, located in Kaposia Park, just west of Concord Street. The club also traveled to many junior tournaments throughout the Central Division.

Kreuser, along with Unneberg, was instrumental in the design and building of a small ski jump located in the athletic complex adjacent to South St. Paul High School.

Mile became president of the South St. Paul based ski club and served in that capacity until his entry into the service during World War II. Following the war, Milt was injured in a ski jumping spill and no longer participated as a competitor.

He continued his love of the winter and participated in recreational skiing. During a trip to Duluth, Milt, with his son Joe, visited the Chester Park complex. Joe saw ski jumping for the first time and was introduced to Luke Soler.

Following that trip to Duluth, Joe proclaimed an interest in ski jumping and Milt, along with his wife Betty and their family, again became involved in the sport.

During his second tenure in the sport, Milt became a St. Paul Junior Ski Club adviser. He continued to become involved in the activities of the St. Paul Ski Club and escorted many car loads of juniors to distant ski tournaments. He became a member of the St. Paul Ski Club Board of Directors and has served as a member of the St. Paul Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

Kreuser is a person who is always available. His quiet demeanor belie his ever ready conviction to volunteer for many activities that have been a vital aspect of the continuing strength of the St. Paul Ski Club.

Through the years Sonny has served as the flag man at countless tournaments, so many in fact, he is not sure whether his shoulder is sore from waving so many flags, or from some other activity.

His long, faithful service to the St. Paul Ski Club has ensured for him a rightful place in its Hall of Fame.
