Inducted 02 Nov 1990 John Lyons was a member of the St. Paul Ski Club since the early 1940s. He served many years on the Board of Directors, and was president on four separate occasions. As co-chairman of the bingo operation, he became responsible for the financial independence that has enable the St. Paul Ski Club to provide the outstanding nordic facilities located at the club’s Carver’s Lake Site. An outstanding competitor, he had a long and distinguished career as a Class “B”, Class “A” and Veterans Class ski jumper. He was a past National veterans and Masters III champion. Lyons was an able and competent representative from the St. Paul Ski Club to the Central Division Ski Jumping Committee where on numerous occasions he headed up the Sanctions Committee for that group. He served as a member of the Central Division Ski Jumping Committee and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Division. As a result of his foresight, many innovations and improvements have occurred at the Carver’s Lake site. He was instrumental in the construction of the buildings and the ski slides, including the present steel tower on Harrington Hill. Lyons has been instrumental in the planning and development of many of the junior programs. He was a viable force in the development of young ski jumpers. His leadership and influence have had a long and lasting affect on the St. Paul Ski Club that will continue to be a valuable resource to ensure success for future generations.
